Train Horn Noise, TriMet Open House

Please mark your calendar for this Open House next week. Several people in our neighborhood are concerned about train horn noise with the expected arrival of light rail passing through our neighborhood. If you would like to get involved, attend this meeting and contact the HAND board.

The Portland-Milwaukie Light Rail Project is exploring how horn requirements may apply to light rail trains that share a freight rail right-of-way. Please join TriMet, train horn noise specialists Rail Control Limited and the cities of Milwaukie and Portland to learn more about options for minimizing train horn noise.

Bosco Milligan Foundation – Historic Preservation Needs Assessment 2009

The Bosco Milligan Foundation has posted their 2009 Historic Preservation Needs Assessment for Portland. It is based upon information provided to them by dozens of Portland residents last October-November.

Expect more information on future historic preservation programs created specifically from the findings in the Needs Assessment.

Street Renaming/Historic Info on Grand Ave

As indicated earlier the City is considering a request to rename Broadway, 39th or Grand Avenue in honor of Cesar Chavez. For information on the entire process please scroll down to the bottom of this message. Thanks to one of the historians living in our neighborhood, we have some information on the history of the name, Grand Avenue (Please see below.) The next step in the process regarding the potential renaming of these streets will be the opportunity to testify before a specially created Historian Panel that will consider the appropriateness of the nominee and the historical significance of the current street names. This panel will hold a series of public hearings:

March 23, 6:00-9:00: Grand (Location: Metro Regional Center, 600 NE Grand)
March 30, 6:00-9:00: Broadway (Location: Metro Regional Center, 600 NE Grand)
April 6, 6:00-9:00: 39th (Location: Hollywood Theater, 4122 NE Sandy)
