Traffic Plan Set for Portland Marathon

The following information has been supplied by the Portland Marathon . See below for bus and MAX information. Click here to download a PDF map of the complete traffic control plan.

The 39th annual Portland Marathon will be run on Sunday, October 4, 2009 beginning at 7 am. Traffic will be impacted throughout the day, and in some cases, certain major thoroughfares will be closed from 6:30 am to 3 pm or later. Impact times are approximate and may vary by 15 to 30 minutes.

SW Naito Parkway, SW Salmon, SW Broadway, NW Davis, SW 3rd, SW 4th, NW Raleigh, NW Thurman, NW Wardway, NW St. Helens Road, N Willamette Blvd., N Greeley , N Interstate, NW Lovejoy, and NW 9th are all impacted by the race to a significant degree throughout the day and should be avoided. The westbound lanes of the Broadway Bridge are CLOSED to traffic from 10 am to noon, and the Morrison Bridge is CLOSED to westbound traffic between 6 am and 8:45 am. The St. Johns Bridge will have one lane open to traffic in each direction. The Marathon course route is closed to all unauthorized vehicular and bicycle traffic.

WESTSIDE DOWNTOWN CORE AREA: CLOSED FROM 6 AM TO 3 PM

Motor vehicles should avoid this area:

•SW 4th Ave. from SW Columbia to SW Taylor
•SW 3rd Ave. from SW Columbia to SW Taylor
•SW Main & SW Madison from SW 3rd to SW 5th
· SW Salmon from Naito to SW 5th

BRIDGES
St. Johns: Bridge Ave. (south side of bridge) from U.S. 30 to the bridge is CLOSED to ALL vehicular, bicycle and pedestrian traffic from 7 am to 1:30 pm. One lane in each direction on the bridge will remain OPEN to traffic from 6:30 am to 1:30 pm. Bridge access will be from north side Germantown Rd . ramp.

•Broadway:
•Both westbound lanes will be CLOSED from 10 am to noon (except for TriMet buses). The outside westbound lane will be CLOSED from 6 am to 3 pm.
•Lovejoy Ramp westbound to NW 9th is CLOSED from 6:30 am to 3 pm.
•Morrison: Westbound lanes are CLOSED 6 am to 8:45 am (except for TriMet buses).
•Burnside: Both westbound lanes could be CLOSED from 6 am to 9:30 am due to congestion downtown (except TriMet buses).
Lift spans of the Morrison and Broadway bridges will not open to river traffic from 6 am to 3 pm.
FREEWAY RAMPS
The lane and ramp closures on state roadways will take place as follows:

· Interstate 405 northbound off-ramp to SW 4th Avenue (exit 1B) will be closed from 6 am to 8:30 am.

· Interstate 5 southbound off-ramp to the Morrison Bridge/City Center will be closed from 6 am to 9 am. The ramp to Belmont Street/Highway 99E/OMSI will remain open.

· The right lane of U.S. 30 (Lower Columbia River Highway) eastbound will be closed between the St. Johns Bridge and NW Kittridge from 6:30 am to 1:30 pm.

DOWNTOWN
•SW Salmon is CLOSED from 6 am to 10 am (Naito to Broadway) and from 6 am to 3 pm (Naito to 4th Ave. ).
•SW Broadway (Salmon to NW Davis) is CLOSED from 6 am to 9 am.
•NW Davis (Broadway to Naito) is CLOSED from 6 am to 10 am.
•SW Naito: is CLOSED from SW Barbur to NW Kittridge from 6 am to 11am.
•Northbound lanes from NW Davis to NW 9th are CLOSED until 3 pm
•Southbound lanes from NW Davis to SW Salmon are CLOSED until 3 pm
NORTHWEST
•NW Raleigh, Thurman and Wardway are CLOSED 6:30 am to 11 am.
•NW 9th (Lovejoy to Naito) is CLOSED 6:30 am to 3:00 pm.
EASTSIDE
•N Willamette Blvd. is CLOSED 7:30 am to 1:30 pm.
•N Greeley southbound is CLOSED from Killingsworth to Interstate 7:30 am to 2 pm.
•N Interstate southbound is CLOSED from Greeley to Broadway Br. 7:30 am to 2:30 pm.

The Marathon will cause 10 to 15-minute delays for MAX and bus lines running in downtown and N/NE Portland from the start of service until approximately 5 p.m. During the event, TriMet will reroute 17 bus lines – 4, 6, 9, 12, 14, 15, 17, 19, 20, 33, 35, 44, 45, 54, 56, 72 and 77.
