Portland Police Investigate Hate Crime in HAND

Portland Police alert sent out Dec. 2.:The Portland Police Bureau, in cooperation with Crime Stoppers, is asking for your help in solving an assault and possible hate crime.

Just after midnight on Monday November 1, 2010, a man was assaulted near the pedestrian overpass located at Southeast 16th Avenue and Brooklyn Street. The victim was severely beaten and sustained serious head and abdominal injuries and was left unconscious on the train tracks just below the overpass.

After an interview with the victim, detectives believe that the assault was likely due to the suspect’s perception of the sexual orientation of the victim.

The suspect is described as a white male in his early to late 20s. He is approximately 6’1″ in height with a muscular build. He had short blonde hair and a light beard. He also had a light complexion and his face was freckled. The suspect was riding a bicycle and was accompanied by another male also on a bicycle.
