Friends of Piccolo Park

A small group of neighbors has teamed up with the neighborhood association and organized a group called “Friends of Piccolo Park.” The group’s primary effort is to raise $7,000 so that the parks bureau can install a water fountain this summer.

Anyone is welcome to join us in our efforts to improve and maintain the space.

For more information on how you can volunteer to become a “Friend” of Piccolo Park, please contact HAND board member Amy Lewin by calling 503-475-3010 or send an email to: piccolopark@handpdx.org .

PRESS RELEASE:
NEIGHBORS WORK TO INSTALL DRINKING FOUNTAIN AT PICCOLO PARK
Volunteers need to raise $7,000 by June 2012

This spring, Hosford-Abernethy Neighborhood Development Association (HAND) encourages neighbors and businesses to donate and support efforts to get a drinking fountain installed at Piccolo Park, our neighborhood’s only city park and playground.

Piccolo Park, located between SE Division & Clinton streets at SE 28th Ave., was built in the early 1990s from a small cluster of vacant lots that were left over from the Mt. Hood Freeway project. The small park is now a popular playground for all ages, especially young children and their families.

HAND is also pleased to announce its fiscal partnership with Portland Parks Foundation on this great project. A drinking fountain is a simple amenity, but can have lasting effects on our community’s health and sense of place, all important priorities in the City of Portland’s plan for the next 25 years.

We realize such amenities cost our community money. And when funds are tight, it’s great to know that individual residents can work to support the reinvestment of our neighborhood. The Portland Parks Bureau has given us the firm price of $7,000 to install a drinking fountain at the park. And once we have the money, they can build it. So why not donate now!

We are already off to a great start! Thanks to neighbor Randy Rapaport’s matching pledge of $2,500, and another $250 pledged from New Seasons Market, and more generous donations already coming in by neighbors. But we need everyone’s help to be a part of this park improvement.

This is an opportunity for small businesses and residents to partner on the reinvesting of our neighborhood and community. Your gift is tax deductible to the full extent allowed by law. For your tax records the Portland Parks Foundation’s tax ID is 93-1319970.

Send donations of $25 or more to:

Thanks in advance!

We look forward to a ribbon cutting later this summer to celebrate fresh drinking water for all at Piccolo Park.
