Beginning July 15-August 5, light rail construction where SE 8th, 11th and 12th avenues cross the freight rail tracks and light rail alignment south of Division Street requires closure of these crossings, and detours.
To minimize the closure duration crews will work 24 hours a day for much of this period. Activities outside normal construction hours are approved under a noise variance from the City of Portland Noise Control Office, 503-823-7350.
Beginning at 7 a.m. Monday, July 15, these crossings will be closed to through traffic – the crossings will be open by 5 a.m. Monday, August 5.
TriMet’s Line 70 bus will be detoured to 21st Avenue between Division and Powell. Everyone should plan on extra travel time during this closure. For bus route information visit www.trimet.org/alerts
TriMet has coordinated the construction scheduling with other agencies to minimize impact to the public. For this three-week closure between 8th-12th avenues the benefit will include safer crossings, improved bike and pedestrian access and also set the stage for a future Quiet Zone where train horns will only sound if there is an immediate safety issue. This will improve the livability of the neighborhood. Continue
