Mark your calendar for a fun neighborhood block party, the same day as the Division/Clinton Street Fair, Saturday, July 24.
Thanks to Southeast Uplift, HAND received a grant to hold a day-long festival called “Roots of Our Neighborhood.†The event will be held on SE 19th Ave. just off Division at the same site where HAND has submitted a permit request to the city of Portland’s Bureau of Transportation to build a park or public plaza.
We want to celebrate our neighborhood and the many ways this area has developed culturally and economically. From the families who helped settle here over the last century, to the present day movement of urban sustainability and creative arts, everyone is invited to take part.
If you have ideas or ways you or your business would like to be involved contact board member Amy Lewin, amy@handpdx.org or call 503-475-3010.
CURRENT NEEDS: Local bands or musicians wanting a place to perform! We are hoping to set up a stage and some live music for the early afternoon and early evening of July. 24th. Sign your group up now!
Pocket Park/Plaza Project
Speaking of HAND’s park efforts, did you know that our neighborhood is identified in the City’s 20-year plan as parks deficient? Did you know that there’s a strip of land the city owns that could be used to add a little green to our neighborhood?
Several years ago, neighbors realized that SE 19th Ave. just off of SE Division was owned outright by the city as part of a 1902 “quit-claim†deed from the estate of Oregon pioneer Mary Tibbetts.
Now there’s a group of HAND volunteers working to find a way to utilize this piece of pavement and turn it into something green we could all use. Find out more about our project, or get involved by visiting HAND’s Pocket Park page.
