This was sent out via the Hosford Dog Groups list serve (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/pdxhosforddoggroup/), but is a good reminder to all neighbors who leave a dish out for their pet…
A neighbor found a sick raccoon in his yard last week. Animal control confirmed it was distemper and said there are likely more nearby. This is dangerous to dogs but not cats and common sources of contamination are outside water dishes and puddles.
It would be good to alert the Hosford dog community and tell other neighbors. The most obvious warning are daytime sitings of raccoons. It is good to know that animal control responded w/in 30 minutes. This is apparently a city wide problem.
