Gift Trees-Local Green Gifts that Keep on Giving & Living Christmas Trees
This holiday give your friends and family local green gifts that give more as they grow – Gift Trees from Friends of Trees. Gift Trees cost $35 for a young native tree or $100 for a grove of six young native trees. Friends of Trees will plant the trees in local natural areas in need of restoration, or you can plant them personally, if you wish, at one of our Gift Tree plantings on Dec. 14, 2008, or March 29, 2009.
Gift Trees are satisfying to give and to receive. In addition to slowing climate change, trees trap air pollutants and rain water with their leaves and roots, reducing pollution from stormwater overflows into our rivers, helping us more as they grow. You don’t even need to pollute by driving to buy them. Just visit “Gift Trees” at www.FriendsofTrees.org. Friends of Trees will print your personalized gift cards and mail them to the people you designate within three business days of your order.
You can also have a living Christmas tree in your home this year and help our city after the holiday. Friends of Trees is partnering with The Original Living Christmas Tree Company and the Oregon Department of Transportation to plant living Christmas trees along I-205 in the Montavilla neighborhood on Jan. 31, 2009. Just visit LivingChristmasTrees.org and mention Friends of Trees when you make your purchase.
As Friends of Trees heads into its 20th anniversary year in 2009, we look forward to working with the city of Portland on its Grey to Green Initiative, helping the city plant 82,000 street and yard trees in the next five years. Since 1989, our volunteers have planted more than 360,000 native trees and plants, increasing our city’s tree cover while two dozen large U.S. cities lost an average 25 percent of their tree cover.
