The proposed code amendment regarding the size of retail/commercial spaces on Division Street passed the Planning Commission unanimously on Tuesday night (10/28) after a very long meeting. This is the proposal HAND endorsed at our June meeting. If it is adopted by City Council it will allow redevelopment of the former Wild Oats Building to go forward as well as making it easier for seven or eight other buildings on the street to redevelop if they choose.
“Though the vote wasn’t close, the meeting wasn’t without drama or longevity,” notes Neel Pender, who works with Stan Amy, owner of the 30th & Division building.
In an email to neighborhood leaders, Pender noted that the meeting did not end until about 11 pm.
“It was also clear that all of your previous work and testimony made a difference, as councilors cited comments from the previous hearings,” Pender continued. “In fact, they went out of their way to acknowledge the collaborative effort that produced this effort, acknowledging BOTH the neighborhood associations and the business association.”
